Even if you have an electric trimmer a good pair of back up scissors come in handy and maintenance is much simpler than with the electric. Not overly done, has a slightly better than average weight and no gimmicky coatings (gold handles, chrome platings) that can wear off in the years to come. This is the quality of grooming tool that one might have found in a mans medicine cabinet 100 years ago.

(More customer reviews)I have used the older Panasonic ER411 nose trimmer for a long time and really liked it. It gives a very close shave. So I decided to get a new one, and bought this ER415SC. I was horrified to find out that they changed the design for the worse, since it no longer gives a close shave! They must have changed the clearance of the blades. What a waste of money. I went back to the older ER411. Let Panasonic know that they should go back to the older design which worked.

(More customer reviews)I'd previously used a Wahl rechargeable clipper, which was great for mobility but ran out of juice too fast to do my dog's entire coat completely. (She's a 20-pound Cavachon.) Being corded, the Oster clipper has plenty of power for the job, at the expense of working around the cord. It runs cool and is not too loud, but be sure to order a separate set of guide combs unless you want your dog shaven.
Pros: Powerful, acceptable noise, cool running
Cons: It's corded, and does not come with trim guides

My hair is naturally wavy, and it seems the magnetic clippers only exacerbated the waves because they couldn't cut veyr evenly. As soon as I got these clippers I immediately noticed my haircuts were much more even, the waviness of my hair was greatly reduced, and those annoying hairs popping out went away by and large. These clippers are very powerful, fast, and quiet. You will get a very nice, even haircut at half the time you would spend with cheaper clippers. These are soooo many times better than magnetic (walmart) clippers.
Update (5/4/10):
I can use this thing for nearly everything because it cuts so well. It's meant for head hair, but that's not to say you can't use it to shave arm hair, leg hair, some facial hair, dog hair, etc...
I gave my dog a VERY good haircut with these clippers recently...it was so easy and efficient to do with these clippers. The only negative aspect is that when you use them a lot, they will get hot, probably meaning you have to re-lube it with the included oil. If it gets hot, nothing will happen, aside from uncomfortable heat on your skin. I would suggest lightly oiling it each time it's used for a big job (especially like shaving a dog).
Heat aside, my review is still 5/5 stars.

And the hair on his head is curly like a poodle, and the rest of his body is straight and fine (like a little girl's bangs, ever cut them crooked?)I have an Andis 2 speed clippers, and I tried click on combs (pushed the hair down), cutting his hair using my fingers as a gauge, and finally bought this size blade. I wash then dry the dog, comb him out good, and run the clippers with this blade over his entire body in about a half an hour. It cuts the hair fairly short, but not too short. And its fast enough it doesn't stress the dog. After I use this blade, I use a #10 to do his tummy, rear end, etc., scissor cut around his feet, and I'm done. less than an hour. Then I don't have to comb him out every day, just his ears and tail. I love the long haired look, but its not practical for a wild one that runs through the mud and weeds every day. I use a #10, this #3 3/4 and a # 7 for both of my dogs. And I like the ceramic edge.

They are really worth every penny. The scissors are sharp, light, and the blades move well against each other with no gaps or catches. My wife has been happy with them every since we got them and I think they deserve 5 stars for that and the fact that you get lifetime sharpening! So if you have to cut hair more than once a month, they are a great buy.

Wanted to get another pair if they did and sure enough they do!!! The only difference in mine is they don't have the added piece on the finger hole part to rest your ring finger on. Highly recommend them!

I am a professional stylist and work in a salon everyday. I needed a backup pair of shears to be able to send my good ones to the sharpener. I got these and immediately they fell apart. The very first time I used them in the salon! I planned on returning them. I got industrius one morning and pieced them back together (Minor mechanic). Now that they are mechanically stable I realized the they do not point cut at ALL. The non-pointy ends are as useless as safety scissors from first grade. They sit in my Jowell case, pretty and pretty useless.
